Replacing banana with cauliflower

If you haven’t tried banana-free smoothies yet, I recommend you give them a try! I use lightly steamed and frozen cauliflower instead of banana to get a beautiful thick texture. You can’t taste the cauliflower at all if you add strong ingredients. I think smoothies with banana often taste exactly the same, but cauliflower is more neutral and lets the other ingredients shine!

Turmeric in everything

I’ve recently started incorporating more turmeric (either fresh root or ground) to my meals: soups, sauces, jams, smoothies, baking… and of course I love golden milk too. I put it in both savory and sweet foods, and I love the warming flavor, not to mention the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and other health benefits. If you add turmeric powder to your foods, just remember to add some black pepper too; it enhances the bioavailability of curcumin, which is the healthy substance of turmeric.

Detox smoothie

Frozen pineapple, leafy greens such as kale, organic lemon (whole lemon), fresh ginger, chlorella, and herbs such as cilantro. Delicious and so healthy!

Chocolate-Tahini Smoothie

Serves 1-2

INGREDIENTS

Vanilla-Tahini

1 frozen banana or 1 cup cauliflower

¹⁄³ cup pitted dates

½ cup walnuts

2 tbsp tahini

¼ tsp vanilla powder

Pinch of salt

½ cup water

Chocolate-Tahini

1 pitted date

1 tbsp raw cacao powder

Toppings

1-2 tbsp blueberry jam (or other berry jam)

Blueberries (or other berries)

METHOD

Soak walnuts in warm water for a minimum of 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Blend all vanilla-tahini smoothie ingredients into a smooth, silky liquid. Add more water if needed. Pour half of the vanilla-tahini smoothie into a jar and blend the rest with 1 pitted date and cacao powder to get the chocolate-tahini layer. Pour the chocolate-tahini layer on top of the vanilla and swirl it up a bit. Add blue - berry jam and blueberries. Enjoy this creamy delight!
